aerating and adding amendments
Carefully preparing our garden beds is essential to the success of our crops. Important considerations include soil composition and fertility, nutrient availability, rock and debris-free soil, and uniform bed length and width.
To prepare beds for new plants, we typically do the following:
Remove previous crops and weeds.
Aerate the soil with a broadfork.
Spread compost and/or nutrients, minerals, and organic matter.
Tilth (gently mix) the top 2” of soil.
