breaking ground part 1: spread lime

2/20/23

The soil pH when we arrived was 4.9, but our crops generally grow best in pH 6. We added lime to our growing areas to raise the pH and improve the soil conditions.

We monitor the soil conditions on an annual basis. We take soil samples from different areas of the farm and send them to the University of Delaware for accurate analyses and unbiased interpretations of the results.

The laboratory tests for pH, lime requirement, organic matter, Mehlich 3 extractable nutrients [Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), Calcium(Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Manganese (Mn), Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Boron (B), Sulfur (S) and Aluminum (Al)].

We use this information to better understand our soil quality and ensure we’re improving our soil over time.
